My Story

Hi, I'm Angela Karner. My family and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am a mother of 2 and a life-long athlete. Movemement has been a tool for my wellbeing, and a source of JOY, since my childhood. I created TGB method to help people, of all ages and fitness levels, attain new levels of physical and mental strength.

Before becoming a fitness professional, I spent 14 years in the maritime industry working as a yacht captain and engineer. I was fortunate to work aboard reasearch vessels and private yachts around the world. I used to travel 300+ days of the year and was constantly on the move. After my first child was born, and travel was no longer feasible, I decided to transform my passion for movement into my next career.

After completing multiple fitness certifications, in a variety of modalities, I still hadn't found the fitness class that checked all of the boxes for me. I loved the intensity and challenge of a barre class, but often found myself unable to engage the right muscles at a fast pace. The 2 lb weights used in barre were simply not sufficient in maintianing and building muscle mass for people age 30 and beyond.

 

TGB method was created by slowing down barre combinations, designed to challenge the body and mind, while placing great emphasis on proper technique and muscle engagement. Each class incorporates low impact cardio, balance/stability work, and functional strength combinations using heavier weights (optional). Classes are low impact (no jumping) yet high intensity. Core strength and stability are the foundation.

 

I have been teaching my method exclusively since 2020. Since then, I have become stonger, pain-free, and have increased my muscle mass and bone density. Exercising in a way that is calming has had a positive impact on my nervous system, and has lowered my stress levels. The workouts leave me feeling energized, never depleted, and I look forward to doing them. Join us in-studio or online, to build strength, improve mobility, and create a deeper connection to your body.
